Practical activities, BSL video guides, and music resources — to use at home, in school, or wherever you need a moment to pause.

British Sign Language Videos

Our BSL videos were created by qualified BSL volunteers to accompany the school programmes and workbooks. They're free to use — just click through to YouTube.

We have a series of BSL signing videos available on our YouTube channel, covering topics that come up in the school sessions — including emotions, greetings, and songs used in the workshops.

Videos are created by qualified BSL volunteers and are free for schools, families and young people to use alongside our workbooks.

Music for Mindfulness

Music plays a central role in Fireworks sessions — for relaxation, body scans and mindfulness anchoring. We've collaborated with composer John Hicks to create original pieces for this purpose.

URREY

Unwind, Rest, Relax, Empty Yourself

An original composition by John Hicks, created for use in Fireworks mindfulness sessions. Designed to help children slow down, settle their thoughts, and arrive in the present moment.

Winding Down

A composition by John Hicks

Another original piece by John Hicks, used to help children transition from activity to a quieter, more reflective state — particularly useful at the end of a session or a busy school day.

Kingsmead School collaboration: In 2021, we worked with Year 7 students at Kingsmead School to write original songs as part of the mindfulness programme — a brilliant example of what happens when young people are given creative ownership.

Mindfulness Activities

Eight outdoor and creative activities suitable for children, families and schools. Each one is designed to be simple, accessible and genuinely calming.

1

Mindful Nature Walk

A guided walk where participants focus on what they can see, hear, smell and feel — using the senses to ground themselves in the present moment. Works in any outdoor space, including a school playground.

2

Raft Building

A team activity using natural materials. Encourages collaboration, problem-solving and focus. Includes a simple materials list: sticks, leaves, string, bark. Safety note: supervise near water; can be done away from water as a land-based challenge.

3

Seed Planting

Planting seeds — in pots, in ground, or in recycled containers — as a mindful activity. Encourages children to slow down, focus on touch and texture, and develop patience and responsibility as they watch things grow.

4

Marathon in a Week

Break a marathon distance (26.2 miles) into manageable daily chunks over a week. Can be walked, jogged, or run — individually or as a family/group challenge. Celebrates consistency and effort over performance.

5

Bird Watching & Listening

Sit quietly and observe birds — their movement, colour, calls. A powerful exercise in patience and presence. Works in a garden, park or school grounds. No specialist equipment needed, though binoculars help.

6

20 Minute Workout

A simple, screen-free bodyweight workout — no equipment needed. Combine movement with breathing awareness to make it mindful as well as physical. Great for energy release before a focused activity.

7

Make a Nature Crown

Collect leaves, flowers and natural materials, then weave or attach them to a simple base to make a crown. Slow, creative and tactile — great for younger children and those who find sitting still difficult.

8

Nature Sensory Box

Fill a box with natural items of varying textures — bark, moss, smooth stones, seed pods, feathers. Children explore the items with closed eyes, using touch to build focus and calm. Excellent for anxiety and sensory grounding.
